I just got back from the 5K at the Brickhouse. I shattered my personal best time. I did the race in 30:35!! My Forerunner caught my average pace at 9:45 per mile - WOW!!! I felt great, too. Pushing a little at the end, but it was pretty humid. These local races are so much fun. There was free micro-brew beer and barbeque at the end of the race. There was also live music. I hung around for about an hour and a half, but then I had to go, since I had a 40 mile drive home. I'm so psyched. I seem to be pretty good at this running thing. My times have been getting better each time I race, which is my personal goal. I'm not going to be garnering any prizes, especially since the 40 - 49 age group seems to be the tough one around here. My time in this race would have put me in the top ten in the 30 - 39 age group, but was only like 16th in my own age group. Those ladies are fast. If only my birthday wasn't until October.
Well, since I am supposed to be mentioning knitting, occasionally, I thought I'd give a progress photo of the Azkhaban Ravenclaw scarf.
I'm about 60% done and it is moving along well. Nothing too difficult. Just endless knitting on a round needle. The color changes for the stripes are working out pretty well -- this being the first time I have tried that. I like the feel of the yarn, even if it is acrylic. It doesn't feel as nasty as the cheap acrylic yarns I've worked with before. I guess quality counts.
My original weight goal has been met. I'm still not happy with my body, so I'm going to see if an addition 10 pounds makes a difference. The charts for my height say that I can be anywhere between 115 and 150, which means that 125 is not too low. Wow, I haven't been 125 since high school. I'm also pretty sure that my home scale is a little off and I'm really closer to 140 right now. We'll see how it goes.
On the running front, I took almost a week off when we had a killer heat wave. I just didn't want to be outside, let alone running in that sauna. The heat broke at the beginning of this week and I've been out in the park trying to build up my mileage. I did about 7.5 miles this week, and I'm hoping to get a long run in on Sunday. I'm aiming for a 4 mile race in September. I may stick a 5k in between now and then - there is one next weekend being sponsored by a local brewpub. What can be better than running and free beer?
I saw Spamalot last night! My mother took me to dinner and the show for my birthday.
I posed for my picture with some of the cast and then it was inside to see the play. It was a fantastic show! Loosely based on Monty Python and the Holy Grail with other Pythonesque references thrown in. I was hysterical for most of it. My mother loved it even though she is not familiar with the Python films or television show. Of course, knowing what was coming added something to it. But there were many surprises. I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
