We finally got a gorgeous weekend! And I made the most of it.
Saturday a group of Metrostitchers headed up to Connecticut for an open house at Scandinavian Stitches. Lynda opened her home and filled it with lovely linens from Sweden, Norway and Denmark. There was much oohing and aahing over the lovely table toppers and table runners. After fondling and purchasing, needleworkers gradually found there way out onto Lynda's back porch to bask in the sunlight and enjoy the warmer than average temperatures. It was a wonderful way to spend a day.
 Chelly and I returned home early because we had both entered the 4 mile Run for the Park on Sunday. I toyed with the idea of wearing shorts, but decided to go with capri length running tights since I was going to have to spend most of the day in what I wore. The park was fabulous. Blossoms were out on the trees and the lawns were covered with daffodils and tulips. And it seemed that everyone in the city was in the park. The start for the race was jam packed. It took over 7 minutes to cross the starting line after the gun went off. I spent most of the 4 miles in traffic due to the huge field and the increased efforts of the NYRR to keep us in the recreation lanes. It made it impossible to get any kind of momentum going and I didn't manage to settle into any kind of pace. It was kind of frustrating, but I didn't go out with the intention of getting a new PR anyway.
I had told Chelly before the race that I would try and come back and pace her through the end of her race after I was finished. I wanted to get some extra mileage in for the day and I thought it would be fun to run with her. After getting my chip removed and figuring out a way to get back onto the running path, I jogged about a half mile back before I saw her. I swung back onto course next to her and matched her pace. I was planning on pushing her a little without her knowing it. She was fading a bit, but I started chatting and we sped up a little. It worked and I helped Chelly run her fastest paced race since last year.
After the race we wandered around the park taking photos and enjoying the weather. I got my first color of the year.
