I didn't have a lot planned for this weekend, which is always pleasant. Friday was a nice evening in with some warm soup and a sandwich. Winter has finally hit the Northeast and we are having sub-freezing temperatures all weekend. Friday morning was our first accumulation of snow for the season. I had to clean about a half an inch off of the car before leaving for work. Saturday morning was cold and crisp for my seven mile long run. It wasn't too bad, although I ended up averaging a bit slower than I was planning. I think I forgot to pause the Garmin when we stopped for a restroom break and that affected the overall pace. It might have been just about right if I minus out that time.
Last night I had tickets to see Big Bad Voodoo Daddy at BB Kings in the city. I met up with Chelly for a late dinner at the Brooklyn Diner. Enormous portions of standard diner comfort food. Then over to the theater for our 9:30 ticket pickup, only to find out that we had to wait on line outside until they opened the doors. This was a mess. It was probably around 20 degrees and the marquee said the show was actually at 11:00 instead of 10:00. So we waited. And waited. I had dressed warmly, but not with the expectation of standing around for an extended time. My entire lower body was shivering and all the muscles, that were already sore from my long run that morning, were seizing up. We stood out there for over an hour. When they finally opened the doors it was a huge mess. All the people who had to pick up tickets were being held back and people who had just arrived were being seated. Also, the place has a $10.00 minimum, which I knew about, but because I had got the tickets through TDF, we didn't have to pay it. But the worst seats in the house were the ones assigned to the TDF ticket holders. Chelly asked the host why we couldn't sit in a better location - he said we'd have to meet the minimum. No problem, since after freezing outside for over an hour we were planning on having a few drinks anyway. So we got seats right against the wall separating the tables from the dance floor. The show was fantastic - I love swing and I thought that BB's was a great place to see it. The place has the appropriate ambiance.
I didn't have much trouble getting home, for a change, but I was too wired to go to sleep. Finally got to bed at about 3 am and I'm paying for it today. I only had a couple of drinks but alcohol always messes with my sleep, so I was up at 6 am. Managed to get back to sleep at around 8 am but only for about an hour. So I feel hungover, but I think it is mostly lack of sleep. Needless to say, I didn't get out for a run today.
This week is a rest week in the half-marathon training. No speed or tempo run, just three easy runs of 3 or 4 miles. I'm looking forward to it and, fortunately, that means I can do them at the gym if I have to.
