I'm smokin'!

Another great race and another personal record!

I did a 4 mile race in Lynbrook today. Fly With the Owls was a local race - fourth race in the Long Island Track and Field Grand Prix series. So it attracted some of the fastest runners in the area. There was a good size crowd. More than 800. I'm not sure if that included the walkers division. We get some serious racewalkers out here. I managed pretty even splits of about 8:16 for an official race time of 33:32. My watch got me in 33:02 - that's more than a minute off of my previous best time and it felt much more effortless than that race. I was pushing it, though. I didn't have too much of a kick at the end which tells me that I was keeping up a good pace.

My sixteen week training program for the More Half-Marathon officially starts tomorrow. The first few weeks are pretty much what I normally do, so the only thing I have to work on is consistency. I have a hard time actually getting myself out the door. In week 5, I start adding in a tempo run and the long run is going to start getting longer. I hope we get the mild winter that the experts are predicting or I'm going to be spending a lot of boring time on the dreadmill.

Very cool!! That's a great start to a training cycle.

I paced 17 miles of the More Marathon last year. Might run the half (assuming I can pair up with someone) if the Flyers don't end up pacing this one again.

Great race! The fact that you ran even splits and didn't have much left over for the finish kick suggests that you ran a near perfect race. Congrats!

Good luck with the Half training. I am with you in hoping for a mild winter!

Congrats. A new PR right before the training starts is always good.

Can I assume your "you can come out here to Long Island" was an offer to help with the logistics? I could probably swing an LIRR ticket for a 5K, but I feel my wife might not buy however I tried to explain a car rental!
